X monetization requirements 2026: eligibility checker

X checks these when you apply. The first group comes from the Original Content Rewards page in the X Help Center; the second from X's Creator Monetization Standards, which apply to every way of getting paid on X.

What changed from the old requirements
If you read a guide written before August 2026, it probably quotes the Creator Revenue Sharing rules. Here's how the two compare:

The impressions number went down, but the kind of impression that counts got stricter. 500,000 verified impressions is a real bar: if about one in five of your viewers has a checkmark, it takes around 2.5 million total impressions over 90 days.
How each requirement works in practice
Verified followers
Only followers with a checkmark count, which usually means Premium subscribers. Having 20,000 followers doesn't help if fewer than 500 of them are verified. Creator Studio shows the number X uses.
Verified impressions
X counts views of your posts by verified users in the Home Timeline (the For You and Following feeds) over the last 90 days. Replies are excluded, so a reply-heavy strategy won't get you there. How verified impressions are counted.
Premium subscription
You pay for Premium ($8/month on the web in the US), Premium+ or Premium Business, and keep paying: payouts stop if the subscription lapses.

Original content
X pays for work you created, including commentary that adds your own perspective. It excludes copied posts, content with small edits (a filter, a speed change, a text overlay), compilations of other people's work, and posts taken from other platforms. Content with a helpful Community Note, or that exists only to coach people on monetization, is also ineligible.
How to apply
Check your status
On X, open Creator Studio → Original Content Rewards. It shows your progress toward each requirement.
Finish the account basics
Complete your profile, verify your email and switch on two-factor authentication.
Submit the application
Once every requirement is met, X shows an Apply button. X reviews each application and notifies you.
Set up payouts
Complete ID verification, then connect X Money (US) or Stripe (other countries). If you did this for Revenue Sharing, it carries over.
If you're turned down
You get one appeal. If that fails, you can reapply after 42 days while you still meet the requirements.
Meeting the rules doesn't guarantee approval. X says it reviews every application and can decline or remove accounts at its discretion, for example for engagement bait ("like and repost if…"), automation or misleading content.

What are the X creator revenue sharing requirements in 2026?
Creator Revenue Sharing was retired on September 7, 2026. Its replacement, Original Content Rewards, requires a Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business subscription, 500 verified followers, 500,000 verified Home Timeline impressions in the last 90 days (replies excluded), age 18+, a supported country, and original content.
Do I still need 5 million impressions?
No. The 5 million organic impressions in 3 months rule belonged to Creator Revenue Sharing. Original Content Rewards asks for 500,000 impressions from verified users in 90 days instead. That is a lower number, but only impressions from verified accounts on the Home Timeline count, and replies do not.
What counts as a verified follower?
A follower whose account has a checkmark, which for most people means an X Premium subscriber. Regular followers do not count toward the 500. More on verified followers and impressions.
Does Premium Basic qualify for monetization?
No. X lists Premium, Premium+ and Premium Business as the qualifying subscriptions. Premium Basic does not include access to creator payouts.
Where do I check my eligibility on X?
On X, open Creator Studio → Original Content Rewards. It shows your progress toward each requirement and the Apply button once you qualify. Many people still search for the old x.com/settings/monetization page, but applications now go through Creator Studio.
What happens if my application is rejected?
You can submit one appeal. If the appeal fails, you can apply again after 42 days, as long as you still meet every requirement.
I was in Revenue Sharing. Am I automatically in the new program?
No. From September 8, 2026 X began rolling out access for existing members to apply. Your ID verification and payout account carry over, but you still need to meet the new requirements and be approved. Accounts with paused monetization cannot join for now.
