X ends Creator Revenue Sharing and launches Original Content Rewards
After three years, X has retired the program that paid creators for impressions and engagement. Its replacement pays only for original content, and every existing member had to re-apply.

What X announced
On August 7, 2026, X stopped accepting new members into Creator Revenue Sharing and announced its successor, the Original Content Rewards program. The X Help Center describes the new program as "designed to reward creators who produce original, high-quality content", from posts and Articles to video and images.
X's reasoning, as reported by TechCrunch, was that the old program "had reached a point where its incentives were misaligned." Allegra Jacchia of X said: "Creators should be focused on bringing net new content to the platform instead of maximizing payouts."
Key dates
First Original Content Rewards payout for switchers
Creators who moved over from Revenue Sharing and were approved from September 8 onward get their first Original Content Rewards payout, according to X.
Final Creator Revenue Sharing payout
The last Revenue Sharing payout covers earnings through September 7. X said it would arrive "on or around" September 11.
Existing members can apply to Original Content Rewards
X begins rolling out access for Revenue Sharing members. The eligibility status is in Creator Studio → Original Content Rewards. ID verification and payout accounts carry over.
Creator Revenue Sharing is retired
The program that paid X creators since 2023 ends. Earnings stop accruing under the old rules on this date.
US payouts move to X Money
US creators are paid through X Money instead of Stripe for Original Content Rewards and Subscriptions. Creators outside the US stay on Stripe.
Revenue Sharing closes; Original Content Rewards announced
X stops accepting new Revenue Sharing members and announces Original Content Rewards, which pays only for original content and lowers the impressions bar to 500,000 verified impressions in 90 days.
Aggregator payouts cut
Head of product Nikita Bier says aggregator and clickbait accounts had their payouts reduced to 60% for the cycle, with a further 20% cut planned for the next one.
What changes for creators
| Rule | Creator Revenue Sharing | Original Content Rewards |
|---|---|---|
| Impressions to qualify | 5M organic, 3 months | 500,000 from verified users, 90 days, no replies |
| Verified followers | 500 | 500 |
| What earns | Engagement from Premium users on your posts | Unique Premium impressions on original posts |
| Reposts and aggregation | Could earn (cut sharply from April 2026) | Don't earn |
| Joining | Monetization settings | Application reviewed by X |
| US payouts | Stripe | X Money |
The headline impressions number is lower, which will help smaller creators whose audiences include many Premium subscribers. But the impressions that count are narrower: only verified users, only the Home Timeline, and not replies. Accounts built on reposting other people's content lose their payouts entirely.
What existing members had to do
Keep earning until September 7
Revenue Sharing earnings continued through September 7, 2026, with regular payouts on August 14 and August 28 and a final one around September 11, 2026.
Apply from September 8
X began rolling out access to apply in Creator Studio → Original Content Rewards. There was no automatic transfer.
Skip repeat verification
ID verification and a connected payout method carried over from Revenue Sharing.
First new payout
For members approved from September 8, X said the first Original Content Rewards payout would arrive on September 25, 2026.
Accounts whose monetization was paused for a past policy violation can't join Original Content Rewards for now.
What it means for your earnings
X hasn't said how much a qualified impression is worth, so nobody can say whether a given creator earns more or less than before. The logic of the change points one way, though: money that used to go to high-volume reposting accounts is now reserved for original creators. If your posts are your own work and a good share of your audience pays for Premium, you're the creator the program is designed for.
