X moves US creator payouts from Stripe to X Money

X's own payments service now handles creator payouts in the United States. Creators everywhere else stay on Stripe.

What changed

On September 2, 2026, X began paying US creators through X Money, its in-house payments service, instead of Stripe. The @XCreators account said: "Starting today, U.S. payouts for Original Content Rewards and Subscriptions will be paid through X Money. You'll have access to your payouts the moment they're sent." An X representative told TechCrunch that the change was required for creators in the US, and that creators elsewhere remain on Stripe.

What stays the same

X's Help Center, updated for Original Content Rewards, still says payouts "are currently processed every two weeks and the minimum payout is $30," with US users paid through X Money and non-US users through Stripe. Some news coverage described the switch as removing the two-week wait and the minimum for US creators. Until X updates its own page, the safest assumption is the documented one: a two-week cycle, a $30 minimum, and faster access once the money is sent. We'll update this story and the payout calendar if that changes.

How X Money works for creators

  • One account each: each X Money account links to one X account, and each person can open only one X Money account, based on their Social Security number.
  • No repeat verification: creators who already verified their ID keep that status.
  • Taxes: TechCrunch reports that X issues 1099-NEC forms to individual creators and collects W-9s from LLCs.
  • Banking extras: X markets a debit card and interest on balances, and TechCrunch reports that accounts are held at an FDIC-insured partner bank. Check the current terms in the app; promotional rates change.

What US creators should do

  1. Open or connect X Money

In Creator Studio, make sure an active X Money account is linked, or payouts can't be released.

  2. Check the X account it's linked to

If you run several X accounts, only one can connect to your X Money account.

  3. Keep records

Payouts are income. Track them for tax season, especially if you also earn from Subscriptions.

Creators outside the US

Nothing changes: keep your Stripe payout account connected and verified. Stripe transfers money to your bank on its own schedule. See how X payouts work and the list of supported countries.
